First Home Buyers
As a first home buyer, your needs will be different from other home buyers.

Financing and the First Home Owner Grant
It’s the easiest and quickest way into home ownership.

First Home Owner Grant
The grant provides up to $10,000 for first home buyers in Victoria. While previously higher, the grant is currently the same for those in regional areas. Depending on your personal circumstances, you might also save money through available stamp duty exemptions or concessions. For the most up-to-date information, visit the State Revenue Office Victoria website at www.sro.vic.gov.au.
First home buyers purchasing or building a new home in Victoria up to the value of $750,000 may be eligible for the grant. The home must not have been previously sold or occupied. Visit the State Revenue Office Victoria website at www.sro.vic.gov.au for full eligibility criteria.
It’s best to seek advice from a home loan adviser before lodging your application with the State Revenue Office Victoria. We can put you in touch with our trusted finance partners, My Expert®, who’ll guide you through the process and help prepare the required documentation for lodging with an approved agent (ie. the lender).
The timing of the grant payment depends on whether you’re building or buying. When lodged with an approved agent, for purchases of a new off-the-plan home the grant is paid on settlement. Under a contract to build, the grant is paid at the date of the first progressive payment. Visit the State Revenue Office Victoria website at www.sro.vic.gov.au for more information about payment of the grant.
